Vacanze in Crete

Crete in July is incredibly hot and dry. Although I love sunbathing, I did get sunburnt on my first day, even though I had kept taking breaks. It is important to remember this, always wear a hat, stay out of the sun at the hottest times and stay hydrated. Answered by A Rose Tinted World

Depending on the kind of holiday you want, Crete has it all! If you like sunbathing, pack your sunscreen, bikinis and swimwear and prepare to laze around the beach or pool. However, Crete also has some amazing history, so if you like that, remember to pack your walking shoes and camera to take pictures of your adventures. We stayed in a small village just along the coast from Hersonissos, and so took a trip to Heraklion to see the ruins of the ancient city of Knossos. Here is where the myth of the Minotaur was born, half bull and half man, who wandered the labyrinth of King Minos. For more recent history and picturesque views, you could also take a trip to the island of Spinalonga. This used to be a leper colony until fairly recent times, and is a fascinating place. We took a boat from the pretty little fishing village of Plaka to visit the island. If you like shopping then there are lots of souvenir shops as well as places to buy clothes and bags. And finally, if you love to party then one of the larger resorts like Malia or Hersonissos is full of vibrant nightlife. Answered by A Rose Tinted World

In July, Crete is buzzing and the tourist trade is in full swing. This means that everything is open, all the bars and shops are in full swing, and it is easy to get public transport and taxis to get around. We actually didn't find it too busy, even in Heraklion centre it was bustling rather than stiflingly packed. I love the fact that there is so much to see and do on this island for people of all ages, we had a great holiday of sightseeing, chilling by the pool and discovering more about the island's amazing history.
